MARA STEPHANIE M. LIGOT "Teacher Tep" Tep is the owner and CEO at WAMES School of Music. She took Bachelor of Music Major in Music Education with an emphasis on Guitar Performance and a minor on Piano Performance at the UST Conservatory of Music under the tutelege of Prof. James Peter Namit, Prof. Ruben Reyes and Prof. Erskine Basilio.
She learned how to play the guitar when she was 12 years old. She has been playing with her band, Overload, in St. Theresa’s College Band Festival for 4 consecutive years. She has been part of several groups in her high school such as Young Composers Society, Green Thumbs and STC Chorale. After graduating in high school, she maintained to be active by handling events, activities and concerts providing bands and artists to perform on the said school. |
Tep took up B.S. Psychology at the University of Santo Tomas for 2 years before shifting to the Conservatory. She was active in their organization group called Psychology Society, College of Science Glee Club and Talent Pool. She performed at several events and competitions in different venues such as Metrobar, Ratsky and Elbow Room. While she was in the College of Science, she took up Voice as an extension course at the conservatory and was under the tutelage of Prof. Florence Aguilar.
She was the secretary of the UST Guitar Department for 2 consecutive years (A.Y 2010-2011 and 2011-2012) and was consistently active since then. She managed and directed several activities such as UST International Guitar Festival (2011 and 2012), Guitar Week, recitals and other performances which were held at prestigious venues namely PhilAm Life Auditorium, Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), UST Museum, Paco Park and many more.
She was also a part of USTemundo, an organization of musicians playing Philippine Music and World Music using ethnic and world instruments (mostly percussion) not common to popular music. She has performed with this organization in various events not only in UST but also outside events.
Before taking up Piano Performance as her minor in the conservatory, she took up Violin Performance and was under the tutelage of Prof. Yusi. She learned how to play the said instrument when she was 15 years old.
Aside from directing and managing events, Tep, also has a great teaching experience. Being the daughter of the owner and director of WAMES School of Music, she was exposed to the business at an early age. She started teaching guitar on 2005 at the age of 15 and violin on 2008 at the age of 18. Last year, she introduced a new innovation for Music Lessons which is the Home Service Lessons – currently the only home-based music lessons which is under a music school. Also on the same year, she arranged several pieces and songs such as Can’t Help Falling In Love With You (Elvis) and Somebody That I Used To Know (Gotye) to be performed by the WAMES Violin Ensemble and WAMES Guitar Ensemble. She is currently the Assitant Musical Director, Marketing and Operations Head of WAMES School of Music.
Tep, as a co-founder of SERENADE SOCIETY, also manages musicians who performs at private events such as weddings, debuts, company events. She is also a singer-songwriter and the front woman of the local indie band named Tep and Friends.
She can play a number of instruments such as the violin, guitar, classical guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, drums, beatbox (k-hon), piano, keyboards, recorder, banduria, octavina, double bass, ethnic instruments (kubing, tongatong, kulintang and angklung) and ukulele.

JOANA MARIE G. DELA PEÑA
“Teacher Jo”
Joana is a Bachelor of Music student major in Music Education concentrating in piano and minoring in voice at the University of the Philippines Diliman College of Music under Prof. Geraldine Gonzales and Prof. Sherla Najera respectively. She also became a student of Prof. Katherine “Kitchie” Molina and Prof. Jonathan “Jojo” Velasco in voice.
She started studying piano at the age of 11, also from a home school service like some of our students, and became music as her passion.
Since her home school teacher is affiliated in the church, she became a chorister at the Parish of Nuestra Señora de La Asuncion Bulakan Bulacan and became one of the resident organists in the said Parish.
Until today, she still serves the Parish as an Assistant Choir directress and Resident Organist, to serve her community and to serve God.
Prior to her degree studies in the university, she enrolled at the University of the Philippines College of Music Extension Program in Choral Conducting under the tutelage of Dr. Emmanuel de Leon Jr.
She is a trainee member of the Novo Concertante Manila as an alto 1 under the baton of Dr. Arwin Tan.
She is also a Professional Registered Nurse before she dreamt of studying music formally that lead her to being a full-time musician.
Her music life goes around being a music teacher, a music player, and a music student – sharing the knowledge to her students, serving the community, the people and also our Creator, and extending her expertise as she grows in her chosen passion.
